Christina Applegate: Holding Baby Sadie to My Chest Was Profound

The moments after childbirth were extraordinarily profound for Christina Applegate, who dropped her defenses and pulled daughter Sadie to her chest, a part of her body that she's kept closely guarded since her double mastectomy in 2008.
"I dropped my gown, which I don't do," the Hall Pass star, 39, says in an interview airing Tuesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "This part of my body [her chest] is very private to me ... that's a real private place. A place that I don't have a good relationship with, let's say. But at that moment of pulling her out, I just tore that [gown] off."
It was a sign of just how open she was to her new daughter. "There's a room full of people that I don't know. Nurses and doctors," says Applegate – this week's PEOPLE cover girl, along with Sadie. "And she and I just lay there. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Amy Adams's Daughter Makes Oscar Nod More Meaningful

Millions will be watching Oscar nominee Amy Adams on Sunday. But Adams herself will be focused on one person in particular.
"I'm going to hang out with my little girl this time around," Adams, 36, who's been nominated twice before, tells ET when asked about her plans for the big day.
This nomination – a Best Supporting Actress nod for The Fighter – is more meaningful than the previous ones, Adams says, because of 9-month-old Aviana.

Will Philip Treacy Design Kate Middleton's Wedding Hat?

When Kate Middleton weds Prince William on April 29, all eyes will be on her dress – and on her head.
Famed hat maker Philip Treacy, whose fans include Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and Middleton's future in-law Camilla Parker Bowles, confirms to PEOPLE that he is making wedding hats for "some members of the royal family and attendees."
And a new report connects Treacy – and his fantastic creations – to the bride herself.
"Kate recently met Treacy after the Duchess of Cornwall (Parker Bowles) recommended his designs for the senior members of the wedding party, including mother-of-the-bride Carole," writes royal watcher Katie Nicholl in the U.K.'s Daily Mail.
The royal connection is legit: Treacy designed Parker Bowles's dramatic feathered fascinator when she married Prince Charles in April 2005.
According to the Daily Mail report, Middleton will don a veil for the wedding ceremony, but is "keen on wearing something fabulous" for the evening reception.
The bride is indeed expected to change out of her wedding gown and into a different dress for the dinner dance being hosted by Prince Charles where she'll have Prince William on her arm. Now the world will be watching to see what's on her head.

Designers vie to showcase wares on Oscars catwalk

Fashion fans are in a frenzy as Hollywood counts down to the Oscars, with designers and jewelers vying to provide the gorgeous gowns and fabulous gems on the red carpet next Sunday night.
Often referred to as the most famous runway in the world, the Academy Awards show offers fashion houses an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their most spectacular creations to hundreds of millions of television viewers worldwide.
The priceless publicity, and unspoken celebrity endorsements, can also influence mainstream fashion trends for seasons to come -- with an impact, eventually, on the high street.
The timeless allure of a silver or platinum beaded gown has long been a popular choice, and Sandra Bullock, last year's winner of the Best Actress award, chose a spectacular form-fitting gown in silvery tones by Marchesa.
Helen Mirren followed in a silver Badgley Mischka, Kate Winslet in a platinum Yves St. Laurent and Cameron Diaz in a strapless oyster Oscar de la Renta gown with metallic ribbon and gold embroidery.
In previous years both younger actresses like Anne Hathaway (Armani Prive 2009) and Jessica Biel (Prada 2009), and more established stars including Julianne Moore (Calvin Klein 2010) have opted for gold and silver gowns.
Nothing speaks of class and a classic sense of style more than vintage couture: Julia Roberts wore a memorable black and white vintage Valentino gown when she won best actress for "Erin Brockovich" a decade ago.
Five years later Reese Witherspoon celebrated winning best actress in 2006 with vintage Dior couture, a fairytale creation of beaded silver tulle embellished with spun gold thread, which she bought in Paris.
Of this year's nominees, perhaps only Michelle Williams, nominated for her role in "Blue Valentine," could be persuaded to take this route.
Some say Helena Bonham Carter was born for vintage couture, but the quirky British actress is known for a more eccentric and individual look: she always wears Vivienne Westwood with a great deal of panache.
The leading contenders for Best Actress, Natalie Portman for her role in "Black Swan" and Annette Bening for "The Kids Are Alright," each have their own style.

Bening almost invariably wears black Armani; a simple tuxedo or a slightly more elaborate creation, such as the strapless long-sleeved fishtail gown, this time Armani Prive, she chose to wear to the 2005 Oscars.
The very pregnant Portman -- who met her husband-to-be on the set of "Black Swan" -- may decide to stick with cult label Rodarte, which created some of the costume designs for the ballet thriller's "Swan Lake" scenes.
However, she is also a fan of celebrity favorite Lanvin, and now that she is the new face of Christian Dior, there is a good chance she'll opt for a classic custom Dior gown.
Nicole Kidman -- an enviable figure, tall and slender with porcelain skin, light auburn hair and a classically proportioned face -- rarely makes fashion faux pas.
She has often favored Chanel couture as well as Balenciaga, John Galliano for Dior, Tom Ford for both Gucci and Yves St Laurent and, most recently, a daring strapless dress by John Paul Gaultier.
But perhaps there comes a time when the allegiance to just one or two designers has run its course.
Marilyn Heston, who represents Alexander McQueen, Nicole Miller and Zac Posen among others, says that stylists have been asking for lesser known designers.
"Maybe there's a backlash to there being X number of people in Versace and Chanel and Dior," she said.
Tom Julian, a fashion consultant and style expert for Oscar.com, agreed.

Kourtney Kardashian Is Engaged To Scott Disick

Get ready to walk past three times the amount of magazine covers at the drug store this year of Kim Kardashian saying, "I'm really fine but I still don't like my thighs, but I use this sarong to cover them up so it's okay! Where's the ice cream?" (even though you're just at the drug store for paper towels!) because she's about to be the only remaining unmarried Kardashian sister! Word has it that Kim's older sister, Kourtney, is engaged to Scott Disick, and Life & Style reports that Scott popped the question during the season finale of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, and that the show ends with Kourtney accepting his offer of a life where all the adult conversation is condescending. Kourtney's mom, Kris, has dug up her old show-planning skills and is plotting a program for E! that would follow the couple while they plan for a wedding, and would also document them on the actual day that their marriage commences. It will also (inadvertently, of course) follow Kim on her already well-documented quest to kill herself.

Drink to Kate Middleton – With a New Beer

Pucker up: Prince William may be the only one locking lips with princess-to-be Kate Middleton, but one British brewery is working to change that.
Castle Rock Brewery in Nottingham will debut a new brew called "Kiss Me Kate" about a month before the April 29 royal wedding, reports the Nottingham Post.
"Kiss Me Kate will be elegant, tasteful and British to the core," head brewer Adrian Redgrove said. "We're sure it'll be the ideal way to toast the couple's future happiness."

Celeb Speak: Justin Bieber Is Pro-Life

I'm sure Justin Bieber prides himself on a few things. Like his hair! Great hair is a nice quality to have. It keeps the Pepto-Bismol easy to find in the medicine cabinet. He also probably prides himself on sticking with his childhood diet of plump chickens because they're what has kept his voice so youthful for so long, even though the breasts and thighs he enjoyed so mcuh were injected with pesticides or hormones or mojo! You don't believe me? Well have you seen him in any commercials that campaign against the practice of injecting chickens with whatever to make them bigger and juicier and decidedly unnatural? No, you do not. So it's safe to say he thanks the cruel factory farmers for his voice and sees no reason why they shouldn't be able to practice their anti Jonathan Safran Foer/human centipede processes in peace.

Do you know what else Justin Bieber prides himself on? ON HAVING MORALS THAT ARE AS STRONG AS HIS CEASELESSLY PROTRUDING CLAVICLES. In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Bieber thankfully took some time to inform us on his personal thoughts about abortion, America, and sex. BECAUSE WHAT ARE WE TO THINK ABOUT THESE TOPICS IF WE DON'T KNOW WHAT JUSTIN BIEBER THINKS? OOF I'M SO EXCITED TO REVEAL HIS THOUGHTS TO YOU! Let's begin:

Charlie Sheen says he's a stand-up guy on his show

Charlie Sheen says he's never been drunk or high on the set of his hit sitcom, and that he knows how to deal with a lack of sleep.
In an interview aired Wednesday, the star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" said he had sometimes shown up for work after long nights carousing.
Sheen explained that he would ask the director to let him stand beside a piece of furniture during run-throughs so he wouldn't fall over. He joked that his tactic was the sign of "a seasoned professional."
Production of "Two and a Half Men" has been halted while Sheen is in rehab. He said production would resume at the end of February.
Sheen had phoned into "The Dan Patrick Show," which airs in syndication on radio and on satellite TV provider DirecTV.

Why Lindsay Could Escape Jail Time

Why Lindsay Could Escape Jail Time
Lindsay Lohan loves getting herself in trouble, but there's a pretty good chance she's going to avoid going to jail this time.
"This is far from a slam-dunk case," L.A. criminal defense attorney Steve Sitkoff tells People. He's convinced that all her lawyer Shawn Holley Chapman has to do is "convince one juror it was an innocent misunderstanding and she could walk."
Meanwhile TMZ thinks her camp should take the 'that necklace isn't worth that much' route. The necklace has a fair market value of about $800-900. Kamofie & Company was selling it at the inflated price of $2,500. Those trendy boutiques are always a ripe off.
Anyway, tons of jewelers agree that there's no way the necklace is worth more than $1,000 and in order to charge Linds with a felony, the necklace must have a fair market value of $950+.

LeAnn Rimes Taking Wedding Planning 'As It Comes'

It may only be February, but LeAnn Rimes already has plenty to celebrate in 2011.
In addition to her Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her hit "Swingin'," the newly engaged country star has two albums on the way later this year.
"Well, when you put it that way, I feel like I have a lot going on," Rimes, 28, told PEOPLE at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala honoring Barbra Streisand in Los Angeles on Friday night, where she performed "Come Rain or Come Shine" with Jeff Beck and Bebe Winans. "But it's kind of chill. We’re taking it as it comes and planning as it comes."
The singer has more on her plate than just finishing two albums. She’s also considering new acting roles – and planning a wedding!
“It's [going] well,” Rimes says of the preparation for her upcoming nuptials to actor Eddie Cibrian. "It's an exciting year and a lot to handle, but I've got a good man at my side. So he's helping! He really is the sweetest, most supportive man."
One thing the Grammy nominee can cross off her to-do list for the big day? Deciding which designer will dress her when she says "I do." Rimes has already settled on the perfect gown for her nuptials, though its creator’s identity will remain a mystery.
"I'm keeping it secret," she demurs.
But after the planning is complete and the couple has said their vows, the country star is most eagerly anticipating the simple joys of married life.
"I’m looking forward to settling down," notes Rimes. "Settling into our life.”
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, Feb. 13, at Los Angeles's Staples Center and air live on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Still Not Officially an Item

Is there still hope for Justin Bieber fans? Because, despite all evidence to the contrary, he and Selena Gomez are still not officially an item.
The teen-power pair once again dodged being labeled a couple at Monday night's L.A. premiere of his new film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, keeping their distance on Bieber's big night.
Gomez, 18, hit the purple carpet in a stunning purple cocktail dress that matched Bieber's purple tuxedo jacket, but the twosome were like ships passing in the night, avoiding each other in front of the cameras.
